Speaking to Sky Sports, Southampton manager Russell Martin conveyed a sense of both “very disappointed but very proud” regarding his team’s performances. He noted that his squad “went toe to toe with the best team in the league at the moment.” Martin also highlighted concerns about the two goals conceded, stating they were “really not good,” and questioned a penalty decision. He expressed “a big issue with Adam Armstrong not getting a penalty at 2-1,” explaining that “The goalkeeper collides with him. It’s what VAR is there for. I have a big problem with that decision.” Martin further pointed out “a real clear offside as well,” observing that “There are five of their players clearly offside and the flag doesn’t go up.” Despite these issues, he acknowledged his team “had a real threat” but felt they “should have been better with the ball.” Looking ahead, he believes “there’s so much more to come,” noting that “The fight is there, they’re running. It gives us a platform to build on.” The manager emphasized the need for “work, analyse the problems.” He took responsibility, stating, “It’s my fault because we thought we would have a chance on transition play.” Martin stressed the importance of continued learning and supporting the players, adding that “Playing out is what got us to the Premier League and I’m really proud of the players.” Regarding player updates, Martin mentioned Paul Onuachu, who “has been so patient and had to wait for his opportunity,” expressing disappointment “to lose him to an injury, hopefully, it’s not too bad.” He also spoke highly of Tyler Dibbling, describing him as “a really great young player who needs to play at the right place,” and noting that “His ceiling is so high and can play where he wants in the future.” Martin concluded by contrasting the current atmosphere with the club’s previous stint in the Premier League, asserting, “I think the feeling is very different from the last time this club was in the Premier League. There’s no lack of fight. They’re really trying.” Post navigation Sheffield Wednesday Manager Reflects on Team’s Performance Amidst Conceding First Goals Spain Eliminates England in Women’s U17 World Cup Semi-Final
