Over their last 12 league matches, Sheffield Wednesday has allowed opponents to score first in nine instances. While this might be a worrying trend for some, manager Danny Rohl views the situation with a nuanced perspective. Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Rohl stated, “We can speak about the cup as half full, or half empty.” He acknowledged the importance of defensive solidity, adding, “To win games you need clean sheets, this is better and makes things easier.” However, he also emphasized his team’s resilience, noting, “But I think we are the team that have taken the most points from behind. I think this is also strong.” Nevertheless, “The Owls” did not manage to recover from a deficit in their recent 1-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday, a result that compounded their difficulties at Hillsborough. This loss represents the eighth occasion in their last 10 home league fixtures where they have not secured a victory, positioning them in 12th place, in the middle of the table. Despite these challenges, Rohl maintains his conviction that the squad possesses the capability to compete effectively against any rival in the Championship. Rohl further asserted, “The squad, all-in-all, is competitive in this league.” He reflected on the recent match, stating, “I will not say we did everything 100% right but we came close against a [Blackburn] team that has four wins in a row, with a big self-confidence.” The complete post-match interview is available for listening on BBC Sounds.
