Two male youths, charged with the murder of 13-year-old Jahziah Coke, have attended a court hearing in advance of their trial, which is slated for the upcoming year. Due to their age, the identities of the two individuals cannot be disclosed; they had previously submitted pleas of not guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Jahziah passed away on August 29 in Oldbury, a location situated close to Birmingham. An unnamed man, aged in his 40s, who has denied the charge of assisting an offender, is also set to be tried concurrently with the boys. The crown court will host the trial for all three defendants starting on March 4, with proceedings expected to span a minimum of three weeks, presided over by Mrs Justice Tipples. Preliminary procedural guidelines were established prior to the trial, stipulating that legal counsel will not be required to wear traditional robes, the defendants are permitted to occupy the well of the court and be referred to by their first names, and both will be provided with intermediaries to clarify any points they might not comprehend. Furthermore, Judge Michael Chambers KC indicated that the attendance in the public gallery would be restricted to avert “distraction” for the defendants.
