Retail establishments in Guernsey are set to extend their operating hours on Thursdays in the period preceding Christmas. According to the Guernsey Retail Group, numerous stores in St Peter Port are scheduled to remain open until 21:00 GMT on December 5, 12, and 19. Additionally, shops situated on The Bridge will either operate from 19:00 to 21:00 or maintain their opening hours throughout this entire duration. Jonathan Creasey, a representative of the retail group, stated: “This is a firm favourite in the calendar and the extended hours, entertainment, stalls and excitement leading up to Christmas all add to the lovely festive atmosphere.” The retail group also indicated that charities, not-for-profit organizations, buskers, choirs, and Le Petit Train would be present alongside the late-night shopping events. Mr. Creasey emphasized that the festive period holds significant importance for retailers in Guernsey. He remarked: “The ‘buy local’ message is more important now than ever – the more that the public choose to buy from local retailers, the better it will be for the health and vibrancy of our town centres,” He further added: “It is all incredibly important and beneficial for our island.” Readers can follow BBC Guernsey on X and Facebook, and submit story ideas to channel.islands@bbc.co.uk.
