Alicja Grabska, 65, has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting to causing death by careless driving. The charge stemmed from a fatal collision with a motorcyclist on 31 January. Ms. Grabska stated that she had driven out of a junction in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, directly into the path of Bradley Roberts, 30, a father-of-two. Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed that Mr. Roberts died at the scene, and Ms. Grabska, residing at Dogwood Walk, RAF Lakenheath, in Brandon, Suffolk, was apprehended there. Mr. Roberts’ wife expressed that she had lost “a wonderful man” and appealed to drivers to ensure they were “fit to drive” and to “look out for vulnerable road users.” Police reported that during an interview, Ms. Grabska acknowledged seeing the motorcyclist but believed she had sufficient time to proceed. She entered a guilty plea to causing death by careless driving in September and was subsequently sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court to eight months in prison, suspended for two years. In addition to the suspended sentence, she was mandated to complete 160 hours of unpaid work and received a two-year driving disqualification. Det Sgt Craig Wheeler of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit commented, “This was a tragic case where a motorcyclist lost his life in a completely avoidable collision.” In a police statement, Mr. Roberts’ wife, Chelsie, conveyed that she is now confronting “the loss of a vital member of our family, who provided love, care and countless memories.” She further described him: “He was our teacher, our support and a wonderful man who would stop at nothing to make us laugh and to share the wisdom he’d accumulated in his life.” She added that their residence is now “an empty, quiet house.” Chelsie Roberts mentioned her strong interest in vehicles and her practice of researching “ways to improve road safety.” She urged, “Please ensure you are fit to drive, that your reactivity isn’t compromised in any way and that you are familiar with the Highway Code. “Ensure you are completing thorough observations before committing to your manoeuvres and look out for vulnerable road users.” Concluding her statement, she advised, “From someone who knows what it’s like to live through the reality of the headlines, trust me, it’s not worth the risk.”
