Having won all 10 of her fights since her professional debut in 2022, Britain’s Caroline Dubois has been elevated to WBC lightweight champion following Katie Taylor’s decision to vacate the title. The 23-year-old Dubois, hailing from London, secured the interim championship in August by defeating Uruguayan Maira Moneo on points and had previously expressed interest in a bout with Taylor. Taylor, the Irish boxer, successfully defended her undisputed light-welterweight crown against Amanda Serrano last month but has not competed in the lightweight division since 2022. Dubois is scheduled to make her initial defense of the championship against Canadian challenger Jessica Camara in Sheffield on 11 January. Dubois stated, “It’s always been my dream to become world champion and this is just the start of the journey for me. I look forward to defending my WBC world title on 11January in Sheffield.” This development is similar to her brother Daniel Dubois, 27, being elevated to IBF heavyweight champion in June after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished that belt. Dubois maintains an undefeated professional record with 10 wins, whereas her upcoming opponent, Camara, holds 14 victories and four losses, one of which was against WBO light-welterweight champion Kali Reis in 2021. Promoter Ben Shalom expressed confidence that Dubois will hold the WBC championship for an extended period. Shalom commented, “We are only just starting to see Caroline’s true potential. We believe she will become the future face of women’s boxing.”
