An Edinburgh park is set to receive new skateboard and bouldering facilities following the approval of planning permission for a £4 million redevelopment project. Additionally, West Pilton Park will feature a new community garden, a component of the project that has successfully obtained funding from the Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust (ELGT). The trust expressed its anticipation that these plans would contribute to “reinvigorate” the area. Construction for this project is scheduled to commence next year. The redevelopment also encompasses the establishment of a “seasonal wetland” within the park, which will be encircled by a raised wooden boardwalk. Furthermore, the park will incorporate updated play areas equipped with basketball hoops and climbing apparatus, in addition to a dedicated space for dog training. Charlie Cumming, chief executive of ELGT, stated: “The new amenities will provide an opportunity to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents as well as helping them to reclaim the park as a welcoming community space.” He added: “The new play facilities will help meet the needs of the local children now and for future generations and will encourage greater use of the park for local families.” The redesign of the project is being executed by SLR landscape architects, in collaboration with the City of Edinburgh Council. Councillor Val Walker, who serves as the city’s culture and communities convener, commented: “Our parks have a positive impact on people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing by providing space for exercise, relaxation, social contact with friends and family, and opportunities for children and young people to play.” She further expressed: “I look forward to seeing the space at West Pilton Park take shape for our community and the development of new play areas and growing opportunities for locals and organisations.” Post navigation Jersey Wheelchair User Calls for Enhanced Accessibility Amid Global Awareness Campaign Sussex Prepares for Bonfire Night Events
