Eight individuals were successfully evacuated following a fire at a residential block in West Sussex. West Sussex Fire & Rescue reported that the blaze ignited just before 02:00 GMT at the flats located on St Cuthmans Road in Steyning. A spokesperson confirmed that the ground and first floors of the building were “significantly affected”. Four fire engines were dispatched to the scene, although initial assessments indicated that none of the rescued individuals sustained serious injuries. Firefighting crews utilized ladders positioned at both the front and rear of the building to facilitate the evacuation of occupants. An ambulance and paramedics were also summoned. The South East Coast Ambulance Service stated that those rescued received initial treatment on site, followed by additional examinations at a hospital. By 04:20 GMT, fire crews had departed from the incident location.
