An initiative by a Surrey council will provide complimentary parking on Small Business Saturday, a national campaign encouraging local commerce. Elmbridge Borough Council articulated that small enterprises are “vital” for high streets, villages, and community life, expressing its desire to “celebrate their contribution and their customer service.” As a measure to promote local shopping, complimentary all-day parking will be available on December 7th in car parks managed by village and town councils. However, car parks designated for commuters are excluded from this special promotion. According to Councillor Kirsty Hewens, who holds the portfolio for parking and local economy, she stated: “I am proud to support our local communities and high streets through Small Business Saturday. “We need to continue to recognise how important small businesses are to our local economy and how they continue to allow Elmbridge to thrive.” BBC Surrey can be followed on Facebook and X.
