Sam Fender has called off his outstanding 2024 performances due to a vocal cord injury. The artist was scheduled to perform in Glasgow later and Newcastle this Friday, marking the conclusion of his UK tour for the current year. The North Shields-native musician announced via a social media update that he had recently suffered from the flu, and subsequent examinations determined he had experienced a haemorrhage on his right vocal cord. Fender expressed that he was “absolutely heartbroken,” but noted that two distinct medical professionals had advised him that performing would entail “risking lasting damage.” The singer stated that he received medical advice to observe vocal rest and refrain from using his voice for a “prolonged length of time until it heals.” Fender’s tour schedule includes the commencement of its US segment in February, followed by performances throughout Europe during the spring. In June, Fender is slated to return to London and Newcastle for his UK stadium tour, which has already sold out three evenings at St James’ Park. The 30-year-old artist has encountered vocal cord issues before, having cancelled his 2019 tour due to laryngitis and a concern about a potential haemorrhage. On Instagram, he remarked, “I’ve done everything by the book this tour living like a monk, it’s so unlucky.” He further added, “This has been the best tour so far and all I want to do is get up and sing again for you all tonight.” “I’m so, so sorry to all of you who are on your way tonight,” he conveyed. Fender also mentioned that he and his team are endeavoring to find a method to reschedule the affected dates.
