The A1 in Northumberland has been shut down following a collision involving four vehicles. Police reported the incident occurred on the southbound carriageway near the Shilbottle turn-off, situated just south of Alnwick, at 07:45 GMT. Detours have been established between the A697 and the A1068, with reports of at least one HGV encountering difficulties while attempting to navigate an alternative path. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed that one individual was transported to a hospital. Deborah Wong, a resident of Swarland in Northumberland, reported having to reverse her journey after an HGV became immobilized close to Hazon. “Fortunately it wasn’t too bad to reroute because I had my baby with me.” She added, “But the lady behind me was travelling from Suffolk and relying on sat nav but the men by the HGV helped her with directions.” The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAS) also verified its presence at the site of the incident.
