Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has declared that securing league titles is the team’s “objective” under their new manager, Ruben Amorim, expressing confidence in their capabilities to achieve this. A recent surge in positive sentiment surrounds the team following a late comeback against Manchester City on Sunday, which resulted in a rare derby triumph at the Etihad and prevented a third consecutive Premier League defeat. Despite the team’s current position in the bottom half of the table, Ugarte, a summer acquisition, believes they are making headway towards their goals under the new head coach. “There’s a good feeling in the dressing room,” the Uruguay international said. “It’s a new project with a new coach and it’s very important for us to know what he wants.” He continued, “But it’s obvious that United need to be fighting for titles and playing in the Champions League and not be where we are.” Ugarte further stated, “That’s our objective but we have to get there step-by-step, little-by little, game-by-game.” Regarding the team’s quality, he affirmed, “Without doubt [we have the quality]. You saw on Sunday what this team can do. We have confidence but also humility. We are United.” The 23-year-old Ugarte initially struggled to establish himself under Ten Hag after his summer transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, but he has since become a regular player following his reunion with Amorim, his former boss at Sporting Lisbon. When asked if the 2-1 victory against City was his best performance for the club, he responded, “I think so.” He elaborated, “It was a beautiful game and when you consider who it was against, I am happy with how it went. We were confident before the game, optimistic.” However, he concluded by stating, “But I just think forward and to the next game on Thursday.”
