A Met Police officer has pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing death by careless driving. This charge arises after an 81-year-old woman passed away following a collision with a motorcycle that was part of a police escort for the Duchess of Edinburgh. Helen Holland was hit at the junction of West Cromwell Road and Warwick Road in Earl’s Court, west London, on 10 May 2023. She sustained serious injuries and succumbed to them two weeks later. Christopher Harrison, aged 67, made an appearance at the Old Bailey on Wednesday. During his court appearance, he confirmed his identity and formally entered his not guilty plea. He has been released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to stand trial on 10 November 2025. Previously, Buckingham Palace issued a statement indicating that Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, was “deeply saddened” by Ms Holland’s death and had conveyed her “deepest condolences” to the family.
