Ollie Rathbone believes Wrexham’s current standing among the top two teams in League One is entirely justified by their performances throughout the season thus far. Rathbone, who joined Phil Parkinson’s squad in August through a club-record transfer from Rotherham United, scored his inaugural goal for Wrexham during their 3-0 victory over Exeter City on Saturday. This triumph against the Grecians elevated Wrexham to second place in the league table, following Birmingham City’s 3-2 defeat at Shrewsbury Town. Rathbone asserts that Wrexham is demonstrating its capability as a serious contender for promotion, having rebounded from a loss at Stockport County with a decisive win against an Exeter side that held the division’s strongest defensive record before their match at the Stok Racecourse. “It’s an exciting place to be, I’m really enjoying it,” Rathbone commented. He added, “The table doesn’t lie, we’re over a third of the way through the season and we’re where we are on merit. I don’t think it’s a flash in the pan.” Rathbone concluded, “There’s no reason we can’t continue and see where we are at the end of the season.” Rathbone’s goal solidified the win against Exeter, coming after earlier scores from Max Cleworth and Ollie Palmer. “If you want to be successful in this league, you’ve got to keep going, you can’t just have little patches of form and performances,” Rathbone further explained. “You’ve really got to build them up and go on runs of winning games and collecting points.” He concluded by stating, “Good teams don’t lose two in a row, you can’t end up going into a dip, and I don’t think we’ve done that at all this season.”
