Derek Flint, a former police inspector who resided in the area for 23 years before relocating to the UK to lecture on policing and legal matters, has been appointed as town clerk for a northern Manx local authority. He is scheduled to assume his duties with Ramsey Commissioners on January 6. Mr. Flint will succeed Tim Cowin, who held the position from January 2022 until his resignation earlier this year. Mr. Flint stated his intention to collaborate with the board to “catalyse investment” in Ramsey’s infrastructure and to attract new businesses to the town. He expressed his “passion about quality public service” and “making sure ratepayers see the value for money.” While acknowledging that the role would “not be without its challenges,” he affirmed his commitment to supporting the commissioners in their efforts to make Ramsey a “great place to work and be based.” Mr. Flint also mentioned that he had much to learn and was eager to undertake the responsibilities of the role. Robert Cowell, Chairman of the local authority, commented that the appointment signifies “an exciting new chapter” for the body, which is “focused on addressing the key issues facing the town.” Additional reporting was provided by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
