A 17-year-old male has received a custodial sentence after two firearms were discovered at his residence. The teenager admitted guilt to two counts of possession of a firearm following the discovery of the weapons during a police operation at an address in Perry Barr, Birmingham, in May. West Midlands Police confirmed that one of the handguns was operational and capable of firing. The boy’s DNA was identified on both weapons. The individual, whose identity is withheld for legal reasons, was sentenced to three years and two months in prison at Birmingham Crown Court. Police emphasized that such weapons have no place in public circulation. Det Con Corey Short stated, “Firearms play a significant role in criminality on our streets. It persistently erodes communities, ruining lives and blighting communities.” He further noted that the force remains dedicated to combating serious crime through Operation Target, an ongoing initiative aimed at prosecuting individuals involved in guns, drugs, money laundering, and exploitation.
