A museum housing the world’s most extensive collection of British road transport is offering visitors the opportunity to “adopt” some of its classic vehicles. The Coventry Transport Museum notably features then Lady Diana Spencer’s Austin Mini Metro and the bus utilized by Coventry City for their 1987 FA Cup victory parade. Individuals are encouraged to contribute donations of either £25, £50, or £100 to participate in the program, with all proceeds directed to the Culture Coventry trust, an organization dedicated to the upkeep of urban tourist attractions. Taniah Simpson, the head of collections at the museum, stated that this initiative is designed to guarantee the ongoing preservation of these objects, thereby enabling their narratives to be shared with subsequent generations. Furthermore, the museum’s holdings encompass the Thrust SSC from 1997, which holds the distinction of being the world’s fastest land vehicle. Among its other exhibits is a Rover Bicycle dating back to 1910, a design recognized as the foundational model for contemporary bicycles. Ms Simpson further commented: “This is a fantastic way for people to feel connected to Coventry’s incredible transport legacy.” Participants in the adoption initiative will receive a digital certificate along with a photograph of the item they have selected.
