An individual apprehended in connection with the suspected murder of Kyran Durnin in the Republic of Ireland has reportedly passed away. Irish police, known as Gardaí, along with emergency personnel, discovered the remains of Anthony Maguire, aged 36 and identified locally, at his residence in Drogheda just before noon on Tuesday. Kyran, last observed alive at the age of six, was reported missing from his residence in Drogheda, County Louth, during August. By October, Gardaí initiated a murder inquiry, stating their approach was to consider Kyran as missing with the presumption of death. Previously, both a male and a female were taken into custody on suspicion of murder, subsequently being released without any charges filed. On Tuesday, Gardaí confirmed they were “alerted following the discovery of a body of a male aged in his 30s”. A spokesperson for Gardaí stated, “The local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.” “The outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.” While the missing person investigation commenced in August, detectives hold the belief that Kyran might have been killed over two years prior. In 2022, Kyran attended the national [primary] school situated close to his residence in Dundalk. Authorities reportedly received information that he was expected to relocate to Northern Ireland and enroll in a new school located in Newry. Officials at the school in Dundalk, where Kyran resided with his mother, were reportedly informed at the conclusion of the 2022 summer term that he would be going to school across the border; however, this assertion remained unconfirmed. Last week, Gardaí conducting the investigation executed searches at two properties in Drogheda, aiming to uncover any details regarding Kyran’s location or the events that transpired. A cadaver dog assisted in the search of one of these houses. Gardaí indicated that the house and its gardens would undergo an intrusive search, in addition to technical and forensic examinations. The findings from these searches have not been publicly disclosed.
