A professional rugby union club has received outline planning permission to develop a parcel of land adjacent to its stadium. The south planning committee of West Northamptonshire Council has approved Northampton Saints’ application for land situated on Ross Road, near its junction with Edgar Mobbs Way. The BBC understands that Saints currently have no specific plans for the site but are exploring various commercial development opportunities. This one-acre (0.39 hectares) plot is located to the west of two existing training pitches. The Conservative-controlled council’s meeting saw the plans approved, despite objections from the St James Residents Association, which cited “highway safety issues” as a result of increased traffic. According to council documents, outline permission has been granted for a unit up to 12,594 sq ft (1,170 sq m) in size, along with a new site access point via Ross Road.
