Telford and Wrekin Council anticipates a budget overrun of nearly £4.3 million for adult social care services during the current fiscal year, attributed to increasing expenses. The council is scheduled to review its financial report at a cabinet meeting this Thursday. Within the report, the authority indicated that the projected overspend stems from various factors, such as higher market rates and the engagement of extra agency staff. Furthermore, the report highlighted that the council is assisting a greater number of individuals requiring extended periods of support, alongside more people with complex needs. Funds from its reserves are planned for use to address a portion of this deficit. The authority stated that partner organizations are exploring alternative service provision strategies to manage demand over the medium to long term. Regular discussions are taking place with the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board, according to the council, with the aim of establishing a funding strategy for the present financial year.
