A music-loving bride marked her wedding by crowd-surfing to the band, Biffy Clyro, whose music brought her and her husband together. This unconventional celebration could serve as the revised wording for Carla Hester’s wedding invitations. Carla Hester, 41, sought a “non-traditional” wedding for her marriage to her fiancé, James, 34. The couple, residents of Lincolnshire, connected through an online fan platform dedicated to the Scottish band Biffy Clyro, sharing a mutual passion for music and vinyl collecting. Upon the announcement of Biffy Clyro’s “Celebration of Beginnings” tour, which featured three performances at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom, the couple decided this would be an ideal setting for their wedding reception. “It just started as this mad idea,” Carla stated. She elaborated, “We thought all our mates are up there, we got together because of Biffy, it’s still a good chunk of time away, we’re talking about getting married anyway so why don’t we do it there with all our mates?” Rather than experiencing conventional pre-wedding anxieties, Carla spent the days before her wedding camping outside the venue with friends, aiming to secure a prime front-row position. After successfully obtaining the desired front and center location, she displayed a sign that read “I’m getting married tomorrow”. The future bride also encountered relatives of the band members. She recounted: “We met Ben and James’ (Johnston) mum the night before the wedding, on the Friday.” She added, “We were talking to her about the wedding and when we met James after the gig on the Saturday in our suit and dress, he said ‘you’re the guys that are getting married, my mum has been texting me telling me all about you’.” The wedding ceremony took place in Glasgow city centre, with friends and family traveling from England to attend the event. Before the third and last Biffy Clyro performance, the couple visited Saint Lukes & the Winged Ox, where they joined other Biffy Clyro enthusiasts. Carla commented: “It was perfect, it was so chilled out. We generally meet up at gigs, we’re just one big Biffy family really.” Other attendees were already aware of Carla’s “daft idea” to crowd-surf and supported her in executing her plan. While the band performed “There’s No Such Thing As A Jaggy Snake,” the bride, still in her wedding dress, was elevated and passed over the crowd by other fans. The couple’s honeymoon also references their initial interaction. Carla explained: “I made a post on the Biffy appreciation group that I was disappointed I wouldn’t be able to get the new Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes vinyl because I was working.” She added, “James messaged asking for my address – he had already bought it for me.” The couple plans to continue their celebrations during their honeymoon in Milan, where they will attend a Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes concert.
