An event to identify the globe’s quickest amateur Cornish pasty crimper has been revealed. This competition is scheduled for 1 March, occurring at the Great Cornish Food Store in Truro as part of Cornish Pasty Week. The Cornish Pasty Association (CPA) stated that two amateur divisions, one for adults and another for individuals under 16, will be featured, replacing prior contests for professional crimpers. Previously this year, the special week generated £20,000 for a community fund, which finances culinary activities and food education within schools throughout Cornwall. Jason Jobling, chairman of the CPA, commented: “Once again throughout Cornish Pasty Week we will be raising money for the Cornish Pasty Community Fund, which helps hundreds of children right across the county to learn about food and cooking.” He further noted that over 30 schools have already received funding to acquire equipment and ingredients for various activities, such as cultivating vegetables and participating in after-school cookery clubs. Additionally, members of the CPA have conducted pasty-making workshops for over 600 schoolchildren. Mr. Jobling indicated that schools are eligible to apply for a portion of the fund through the CPA website. To generate contributions for the fund, he urged individuals producing or selling authentic Cornish pasties to contribute either a specific amount from each pasty sold throughout the week or a predetermined sum of their choosing. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund has provided partial funding for Cornish Pasty Week.
