An order allowing dispersal has been enacted to deter anti-social conduct in a specific town on Halloween evening. According to Essex Police, this order, applicable to Canvey Island, Essex, became active at 18:50 GMT on Thursday and will remain effective until 05:00 on Friday. Its scope encompasses parts of the town centre, specifically mentioning the paddocks and Lionel Road. A spokesperson for Essex Police stated: “We will have officers across the town and this order gives them the power to disperse any groups behaving anti-socially or disorderly in the town.” The police force characterized the order as a “preventative measure” designed to enable officers to avert instances of anti-social behavior within the town as residents celebrate Halloween. An Essex Police spokesperson commented: “We are aware of reports of anti-social behaviour in the town centre, so we are taking proactive steps to make sure the law-abiding majority of the public can enjoy Halloween this evening. “We want people to enjoy the evening but people congregating in large groups and behaving anti-socially will be moved on.” The police also advised shopkeepers to consider their sales practices and ensure responsible distribution of items like fireworks. Furthermore, the force has implemented a dispersal order in Benfleet, Essex, prompted by accounts of fireworks being discharged irresponsibly. They declared: “We will not tolerate this type of behaviour in the district.” Both of these orders are scheduled to conclude at 05:00 on Friday.
