A dedicated admirer of Paddington Bear is endorsing an initiative to establish a statue of the popular figure within the county. Emma Bending, a resident of Bugbrooke, possesses a collection exceeding 100 Paddington Bears and is supporting West Northamptonshire Council’s pursuit of a statue. This undertaking forms part of a national project aimed at installing 23 Paddington statues in various towns and cities throughout the UK, timed to coincide with the premiere of the newest film in the franchise, Paddington in Peru. Ms Bending commented: “I very much want [a statue] in Northampton’s market square. It’s new and would bring a lot of people to the area.””But, also it would [look] cracking outside of my house,” she added humorously. Ms Bending’s enthusiasm for Paddington originated when she was six years old, after her grandparents presented her with a book featuring the marmalade-fond bear; subsequently, her parents acquired a Gabrielle-designed figure for her. Her assortment has expanded over time to encompass significant pieces, including a five-foot (152cm) life-sized Steiff bear, which holds a valuation of £20,000. Her profound dedication to Paddington eventually resulted in a personal relationship with the character’s originator, Michael Bond. “I wrote to [Michael Bond] nearly 20 years ago… and I ended up being a bit of a pen pal with him” Ms Bending recounted. Subsequently, the devoted fan was invited by Mr Bond’s daughter to attend the premiere screening of Paddington 2. “We had front row seats and even met Ben Whishaw,” Ms Bending stated, identifying the actor who provides Paddington’s voice. “We had a fantastic time, it was lovely” she concluded. The assortment has since evolved into a local point of interest, drawing numerous visitors who journey to view it, though Ms Bending conceded that displaying the collection can be “quite a trial to get the collection out”. The council had previously stated: “The Paddington in Peru campaign provides an opportunity for residents, businesses and communities to share their creativity and showcase their local identity while playing a part in Paddington’s legacy, boosting the profile of the area, and attracting tourism.” Post navigation Michelle Yeoh Reflects on Feelings of Failure Regarding Childlessness Prominent Figures Pay Homage to Quincy Jones
