A lorry driver absconded after their vehicle became lodged under a railway bridge, an incident that necessitated the cessation of train services. Leicestershire Police and Network Rail were alerted on Monday morning to reports of a lorry having collided with Fosters Bridge, located between Ketton and South Luffenham in Rutland. However, police confirmed that by the time responders arrived, the vehicle had already left the location. A spokesperson for Network Rail stated that a call was received around 08:10 GMT, reporting a lorry that was “trapped under the bridge,” leading to trains being held while the structural integrity was assessed. The spokesperson added: “There was no immediate damage found to the bridge. “There was a backlog of train services but by 09:25, everything was back to normal.” In a post on Facebook, Leicestershire Police commented: “The cost of lines being stopped is immense, and the delay can be felt up and down the country. One bridge can seriously affect national infrastructure.” The force indicated that inquiries into the incident would be conducted.
