Salisbury Cathedral is hosting “Sarum Lights,” a light and sound exhibition, offering visitors a “trip through history.” This display, developed by the art company Luxmuralis, delves into art, photography, and societal transformations spanning centuries. The current year’s theme is time, and the event is scheduled to occur nightly until Saturday. Peter Walker, artistic director of Luxmuralis, commented: “This large-scale installation is art on an epic scale, allowing visitors to experience how time has inspired and influenced scientists, historians and artists.” He further noted that this journey through history enables individuals to comprehend how time “determines all our lives.” The “immersive” experience incorporates illustrations of ancient cave paintings and a conceptual journey through Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Projections will feature excerpts from HG Wells’ The Time Machine and will visually demonstrate the internal mechanisms of clocks. An interactive exhibit, titled A Note to Myself, invites attendees to compose a message to themselves at different stages of their lives. These postcards will subsequently be integrated into a cascade display within the cathedral. Sarum Lights is scheduled to operate nightly from 17:30 GMT until 9 November. Additionally, low sound screenings will be offered between 17:30 and 18:30 on 5 and 6 November. For updates, follow BBC Wiltshire on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
