A visitor recorded video footage of a newborn grey seal pup immediately after its birth at a nature reserve located in Lincolnshire. This particular “big button-eyed, fluffy” infant is one of 128 pups that have been born at Donna Nook so far this year. Each year, from late October to December, the coastline between North Somercotes and Saltfleet becomes a birthing ground for hundreds of seals, welcoming thousands of seal pups. Approximately 20 pups are observable from the designated viewing path, and the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust provides a list of guidelines on its website to minimize disturbance to the seals. For additional content, listeners can find highlights from Lincolnshire on BBC Sounds, viewers can watch the most recent episode of Look North, or individuals can submit a story they believe should be covered.
