Thousands of individuals in Wolverhampton are anticipated to participate in events designed to highlight and address violence within relationships. The city council announced that the annual Orange Wolverhampton campaign aims to elevate awareness of the city’s initiative to eradicate violence, including domestic abuse, forced marriage, harassment, and stalking. Commencing on 25 November and running for 16 days, the campaign will emphasize the support available from organizations such as The Haven and Karma Nirvana, as well as from the council itself. The council stated that the initiative has a “strong focus on ending interpersonal violence against all individuals” and aligns with programs conducted by the United Nations. Jasbir Jaspal, cabinet member for adults and wellbeing, remarked, “The Orange Wolverhampton campaign is a great way for us to all say ‘no’ to interpersonal violence and help raise awareness of the advice and support available to victims and survivors in Wolverhampton.” The authority expressed its hope that “thousands of people will get involved again this year” by either organizing or participating in events, or by visiting the information stand at the Mander Centre on 2 and 3 December. Activities planned include “wear orange” days, with charities, businesses, and other groups intending to display the color orange on their buildings, websites, and social media channels. Runners supporting the campaign will participate in park runs at West Park and East Park. Additionally, the city’s domestic abuse champions will offer confidential discussions about concerns at Wednesfield Library on 29 November. Further events include both online and in-person sessions, craft workshops with Changing Lives, and a round-table event for male survivors and professionals from relevant organizations, hosted by St Georges’ Hub welfare centre. Organizers also mentioned a workshop aimed at helping to identify hidden male victims of honour-based violence. The series of events will begin with a flag-waving ceremony outside Wolverhampton Civic Centre at 11:00 BST on 25 November. This initiative starts on the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and concludes on 10 December, a date recognized as Human Rights Day.
