Law enforcement officials investigating the sexual assault of a 16-year-old student in Dundee suspect that the perpetrator was recorded on CCTV. Authorities stated that the victim was with a friend when a male suspect approached them. Following her friend’s departure, the man assaulted the girl within a small car park situated in Dundee’s Cowgate district. Investigators reported the event occurred on Sunday, between 01:00 and 01:30. Detective Inspector Graeme Wishart, who is overseeing the investigation, indicated that a grainy image of the individual thought to be responsible was obtained from CCTV footage. Det Insp Wishart commented: “It’s the very early stages of the inquiry, but the main positives are the initial CCTV trawls.” He added, “We obviously have a sighting of the person responsible but we need to develop that into getting his identification.” The detective confirmed that the girl had been accompanied by a friend before the assault. He stated: “The two friends had been socialising and were arranging their own ways home.” He further explained, “The male spoke to both of them and then the friend left the area.” Wishart concluded, “He wasn’t known to them prior to this.” Det Insp Wishart reported that subsequent to the attack, the girl proceeded into the city centre, where a member of the public observed her in distress and subsequently notified police officers. The detective also mentioned that a specialized team is conducting both CCTV reviews and door-to-door investigations. The suspect’s description indicates he is approximately 20 years old, white, of slim build, and average height, with a short beard. His attire included a beige or khaki jacket, a black T-shirt, dark trousers, and light brown boots. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
