Two individuals, apprehended following a 120mph road pursuit in west Belfast that concluded with their vehicle colliding with a police car, have been granted bail. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reported that the police vehicle sustained extensive damage after the collision occurred on Stockmans Lane in the early hours of Monday morning. The individuals, aged 33 and 24, were apprehended on suspicion of various offences, including dangerous driving. The 24-year-old man was released on bail on Monday, and the 33-year-old man was released on Tuesday. Police stated that both were transported to a hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The two police officers involved in the collision sustained minor injuries. The incident commenced at approximately 02:30 GMT when officers instructed a white Volkswagen Golf, travelling on the Westlink, to stop. However, police reported that the vehicle persisted in driving at high speed and, at one juncture, on the incorrect side of the road. Police pursued the car, and officers attempted to decelerate it using a stinger device. The driver proceeded towards Blacks Road before colliding with the police car on Stockmans Lane. The PSNI stated that a portion of the M1 was closed until the vehicle was brought to a standstill. PSNI Inspector Irwin stated: “I would stress that the actions of the driver responsible for the pursuit and subsequent collision with our officers is totally unacceptable.” He further added: “Our officers were working to keep people safe when this reckless act occurred and attacks like these should be wholly condemned.” Authorities are appealing to any individuals who witnessed the white Volkswagen Golf or recorded dash-cam footage of its trajectory to come forward.
