A 69-year-old individual, who had been apprehended in north London on suspicion of fraud related to a campaign seeking the perpetrator of a police officer’s 1984 killing, has been released while inquiries continue. Police Constable Yvonne Fletcher was 25 years old when she was fatally shot in 1984 while performing her duties outside the Libyan embassy amidst a protest. To date, no individual has been charged in connection with her death. Allegations concerning financial improprieties associated with a justice campaign were brought to the attention of the Metropolitan Police, which subsequently transferred the investigation to Cheshire Police to prevent any potential conflict of interest. On Wednesday, law enforcement personnel from Cheshire Police carried out the arrest in Mill Hill, where they also conducted a search of a property. The police force has indicated its interest in hearing from any individuals who may have contributed donations to the campaign at any point, and investigations are still in progress.
