Blackpool manager Steve Bruce has conveyed his appreciation for the numerous tributes he has received following the passing of his infant grandson. Bruce took on his current role at Blackpool in September, marking his return to football management after an absence of nearly two years. His four-month-old grandson, Madison, passed away earlier in October. Madison was the son of Bruce’s daughter and his son-in-law, Matt Smith, who is a former striker for Leeds United, Fulham, and Millwall. Following his grandson’s death, Bruce took a period of leave from football. He is scheduled to resume his duties in the dugout for Saturday’s FA Cup first-round match, which will take place at Gillingham. In a statement, Bruce expressed, “I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the family to thank everyone for the tributes and messages from inside and outside the footballing world. It has touched us all.” He further added, “I’d also like to thank [sporting director] David [Downes], [chief executive officer] Julian [Winter], and the owner Simon [Sadler] for their understanding and support.” Bruce concluded his statement by saying, “I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday at Gillingham, and back at Bloomfield Road.”
