Leisure vessel proprietors have labeled a proposed increase in mooring charges as “inequitable.” A formal petition, addressed to Deputy Peter Roffey, who serves as president of the States Trading Supervisory Board (STSB), asserts that such a fee escalation would result in “long-term detriment” for individuals employed within the local marine sector. Revisions to leisure marina fees that were put forward underwent a review following expressions of concern from boat owners, various trade associations, and yacht clubs. The States of Guernsey has been requested to provide commentary on the matter. Responses regarding a suggested 3% fee increase for 2025 prompted the STSB to put forward a recommendation for a “similarly modest” increase for 2026. This measure was intended to ease worries concerning the future cost-effectiveness of moorings. Nevertheless, leisure boat owners continue to oppose the proposed rise. The petition states: “The facilities provided by Guernsey Harbours to local leisure berth holders fall well short of facilities available in other ports.” It further alleges that the suggested increases are contributing to the financing of deficits sustained by Guernsey Airport. The petition asserts: “Harbour users are paying more than the relevant costs of running the harbours to support the airport.” Post navigation Guy Fawkes’ Alleged Lantern, Linked to Gunpowder Plot, Exhibited in Oxford North East Lincolnshire Council Chief Executive to Retire After Over a Decade
