Community spaces designed to assist individuals facing difficulties in staying warm this winter have been reactivated across Surrey. A total of 84 locations, encompassing libraries, charity shops, and churches, have extended their support to local residents. The Warm Welcome community initiative, which operates from November until March 2025, provides a warm environment, a hot beverage, and companionship. A spokesperson for Surrey County Council stated: “Whether you are old or young, live alone or with your family, feel like you are struggling or just managing to get by, a Warm Welcome awaits you.” This initiative seeks to assist county residents impacted by the ongoing cost of living crisis and elevated energy prices. The council spokesperson further remarked: “Many millions of UK residents will be affected by high energy bills, rising mortgage costs and Surrey is no different.”Many of our neighbours, friends, and families will be forced to make difficult decisions on whether to heat their homes or eat three meals a day.” The assistance provided by each location will vary, with some offering guidance on energy and financial matters. Other sites will distribute complimentary clothing and fuel vouchers. A comprehensive directory of Surrey venues, detailing their specific provisions, is accessible here.
