Alex Franklin-Smith has been appointed as the new chief constable for Warwickshire Police. Mr. Franklin-Smith, who succeeds Debbie Tedds following her retirement in September, stated that his appointment was an “honour and a privilege.” He had been serving as interim chief constable since then, and Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe remarked, “I have been impressed by his work to date.” Mr. Seccombe, having recommended Mr. Franklin-Smith for the permanent role, commented: “He was extremely impressive throughout the selection process and I had no hesitation in nominating him for the position.” The appointment was officially confirmed on Monday at a meeting of the Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel. After the confirmation, Mr. Franklin-Smith announced his intention to begin developing a “new policing plan that serves all our communities.” Ms. Tedds, who retired after three years in the position, was recognized as the first female chief in the force’s 160-year history.
