An update concerning the regeneration plans for a former ski village in Sheffield is slated for announcement at an upcoming council meeting next week. Sheffield City Council is set to hear the latest on proposals to redevelop the Parkwood site, following an offer put forth by New Zealand developer Skyline Lounge. In 2022, the council was presented with various options for advancing the site’s development, subsequent to the conclusion of the lease with the then-developer. Skyline submitted a proposal, and discussions have since continued “with the clear understanding that dealing with the site’s access and the condition of the site itself was needed before Skyline would be able to take forward any proposals for the site,” according to a report. The council’s transport, regeneration and climate policy committee will be informed that a kiosk has been constructed and is now operational, and that “wider improvements to the country park have been made.” The report stated: “Discussions with Skyline have also continued. With the funding now in place to improve the site and improve access we are putting in place a memorandum of understanding that will allow Skyline to begin to masterplan the site.” This step is intended to “then allow for the council to enter into negotiations for the development of the site/lease of the land.” The Sheffield Ski Village operated from 1988 until its destruction by fire in April 2012. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the council received £19.4m for the site from the government’s Levelling Up fund, which is earmarked for specific expenditures.
