Bai Yulu secured her inaugural victory since joining the World Snooker Tour on Saturday. This achievement also marked her as the first woman this century to win consecutive matches at a ranking event, following her 6-4 triumph over Jamie Jones in the second qualifying round of the UK Championship. The 21-year-old Chinese player, Bai, advanced past world number 54 Jones, a former Crucible quarter-finalist, by compiling breaks of 70, 58, 56, and 68. She had previously defeated Farakh Ajaib in her opening match on Saturday. Her current streak makes her the first woman to record consecutive victories at a ranking event since Kelly Fisher in the pre-qualifying rounds of the 1999 World Championship. Bai, the World women’s champion, is participating in her first season on the professional tour and had not secured a victory on the main tour prior to this week. She is scheduled to face Scott Donaldson next on Tuesday (09:30 GMT). She requires two additional wins to reach the final stages of the tournament in York, which would lead to a match against one of the top-16 ranked players.
