The concluding musical creation of a Stoke-on-Trent DJ, who succumbed to cancer earlier this year, has been made public as a charity single. Danny Stubbs, a native of Chell Heath, commenced his professional journey in Hanley’s club scene during the early 2000s. His career subsequently expanded globally, leading him to collaborate with prominent figures within the music industry. Revenue generated from the sale of the single, titled “Is This Real,” is designated to support cancer research initiatives. Paul Sawyer, a friend and producer, commented that the song served as “a great way to celebrate his life”. Sawyer further stated: “Everybody loved Danny. He was so infectious, one of the nicest guys you could ever meet within the music industry.” Among the well-known artists Stubbs collaborated with were U2, Ariana Grande, and Paul Oakenfold. After receiving a diagnosis of oesophageal cancer, he passed away in August at the age of 40, at St Luke’s Hospice located in Winsford. An event held in his memory at a club in October successfully generated over £1,000 for the hospice. Mr. Sawyer remarked, “He was so approachable and he was not interested in making money out of music, he just absolutely loved it – it was his passion, and that’s what made him so special.” He added, “It brings a bit of a tear to your eye when you listen to what everybody has to say.” Sawyer considered it the “most obvious thing to do” to raise funds for cancer research using Stubbs’s last musical piece. “With his passing suddenly, it made sense to make sure that this still gets released and just shows off his talent,” he explained. Mr. Sawyer also expressed that he would be delighted if the single reached the top position on the Beatport electronic dance music chart.
