Business leaders in Jersey are being encouraged to explore applying for a new initiative designed to assist local enterprises. According to the government, the Better Business Support Package (BBSP), administered by Jersey Business, is scheduled to commence in March 2025. This package will offer employers the opportunity to apply for grants that are 50% match-funded, with a total allocation of £5.3m. The government indicated that the scheme is intended to provide funding for initiatives focused on staff training, enhancing productivity, and fostering development within the tourism industry. Eligibility for these grants extends to registered Jersey businesses that employ a minimum of one individual paid at least £128 per week for a duration of at least three months, and are current with their tax contributions or adhering to a repayment plan. Deputy Kirsten Morel, the Sustainable Economic Development Minister, stated that the BBSP presents an opportunity for businesses in Jersey to secure investments in their workforce. Morel commented: “There are mounting pressures on employers and I hope they can take time into the new year to consider their business priorities, assess what improved productivity looks like for them and how their staff can become more skilled.” He further urged: “I would then urge them to engage with Jersey Business to ensure everyone is ready when the application process opens.” Follow BBC Jersey on X and Facebook.
