The head of a university racing team has commended its student members for their efforts throughout what was described as a “demanding” season. The University of Wolverhampton Race Team (UWR) recently concluded its participation in this year’s ZEO Prototype Series, securing a double podium finish at Oulton Park in Cheshire. This marked the team’s tenth racing season, throughout which they achieved podium finishes on nine occasions, notably securing a second-place position at the Supercar Challenge held at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Shane Kelly, who serves as both a racing driver and the UWR team manager, stated: “For me the season has been demanding on and off track.” He added: “I’m so proud of all the students involved in UWR, as always they have overachieved with an impressive work rate.” The team is primarily composed of engineering students, encompassing disciplines such as motorsport, automotive, mechanical, aerospace, and chemical engineering. According to the university, some former graduates have advanced to roles with Formula 1 teams or taken on management positions at companies such as Rolls Royce.
