Festive gatherings in Shropshire have been called off due to predictions of heavy rainfall and powerful winds, leading to significant safety worries. Bridgnorth Town Council announced its reluctant decision to cancel its Christmas lights switch-on scheduled for Friday. Concurrently, Madeley Town Council rescheduled its mobile Santa Christmas float, originally set for Friday and Saturday. The Much Wenlock Christmas Fayre, planned for Saturday, has also been cancelled, citing concerns for both vendors and attendees. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain across the county, effective from Thursday through Sunday. Bridgnorth Town Council further stated that the lights would be illuminated at a secure point over the weekend. The festive float was originally scheduled to visit Madeley, Sutton Hill, and Woodside. Madeley Town Council confirmed it would now proceed on December 11 and December 19. “This does not affect the community events at the Park Lane Centre and Hub on the Hill which will be going ahead as planned,” the council stated.
