Ed Sheeran has extended a video message of support to a primary school after contributing a signed guitar to aid their fundraising efforts. In the video, which was posted on X, he conveyed his hope that his donation would assist The Downs Primary and Nursery School in Harlow, Essex. Head teacher Rob Calderwood commented that both the video and the guitar had been very well received within the school. “The children are incredibly excited about it as are the teachers. It has created a real buzz.” Sheeran, who resides in Framlingham, Suffolk, a county bordering Essex, has connections to the school through close family friends. In the video, he states: “Just to let you know, I’ve signed a guitar which I hope will raise a lot of money for you guys.” Vic Goddard, the executive head of the trust that operates the school, highlighted the importance of raffling the item rather than auctioning it. “Getting the money is really important, but engaging the community is equally important.” He further explained, “If it was an auction then it would go to one individual. This way every child – and every parent – who’s got £1, can know that they are in with a chance.” The school, located in The Hides, Harlow, currently has 400 children enrolled.
