Following Celtic’s hard-fought draw against Club Brugge, defender Auston Trusty immediately turned his attention to their “huge” upcoming Champions League fixture. This match, scheduled for 10 December away to Dinamo Zagreb, is critical as a victory would elevate Celtic to 11 points, effectively ensuring their advancement to the knockout phase. Speaking to BBC Scotland, American international Trusty, whose performance against Brugge was notable, stated: “Huge. Every game is huge. We’re confident in ourselves and in our ability. We know the power we possess and it’s really in our hands.” He continued, asserting the team’s competitive spirit: “We can compete with anybody. When we’re on it, and playing our game, I think we’ve shown we can play.” Trusty also commented on the team’s composition, saying: “I’ve joined a squad where everybody’s good. I trust everybody and everyone has their own way of playing the game and they really thrive in doing so.” Trusty mentioned that he is cultivating a strong defensive partnership with his international team-mate Cameron Carter-Vickers, yet he stressed that the team’s fundamental strength lies in its collective capabilities. He further elaborated on the team’s morale, stating: “I’m confident and the team’s very confident.” Trusty explained: “I joined a squad and an organisation that want success and has a history of success and a mindset where you give your all every single game.” He concluded this point by saying: “We’re really confident going into any game, whether it’s league or Champions League so we’re in a good spot.” As the period approaches when many Americans contemplate Thanksgiving, Trusty is also observing this tradition, with his family having traveled to watch him play and subsequently celebrate. The 26-year-old commented: “I have family over here who flew over from the States to see this game.” He added: “The chance to go to a Champions League game at Celtic Park is pretty special and then we’re going to have Thanksgiving on Thursday. Turkey, pumpkin pie, apple pie, the works.”
