Thames Valley Police reported that burglars gained entry to a farm located on the Windsor Castle estate last month, absconding with two vehicles. The incident, initially disclosed by the Sun newspaper, occurred at a farm within the Windsor estate, an area that also encompasses various residences belonging to the Royal Family. Reports indicated that the Prince and Princess of Wales were present at their residence on the estate during the overnight burglary; however, Kensington Palace has refrained from making any statement. Police confirmed that a pick-up truck and a quad bike were taken from the farm, and as of now, no arrests have been carried out. King Charles and Queen Camilla were not present at Windsor Castle at the time of the farm raid. Prince William and Catherine reside with their three children at Adelaide Cottage, situated in close proximity to Windsor Castle. Senior members of the Royal Family benefit from dedicated police protection, and there is no indication that the incident posed any direct threat. Royal Lodge, another Windsor residence inhabited by the Duke of York, maintains its own security protocols, reportedly costing several million pounds annually. The burglary occurred at approximately 23:45 on Sunday 13 October, with reports indicating that the perpetrators scaled a six-foot perimeter fence and then forced their way through a gate using a stolen vehicle to escape. A statement from Thames Valley police detailed: “Offenders entered a farm building and made off with a black Isuzu pick-up and a red quad bike. They then made off towards the Old Windsor/Datchet area.” The police statement added: “No arrests have been made at this stage and an investigation is ongoing.” This incident follows prior security breaches at Windsor, including the arrest of an intruder within the grounds of Windsor Castle on Christmas Day in 2021. Jaswant Singh Chail, who was found to be armed with a crossbow, subsequently received a nine-year prison sentence. The expansive 15,800-acre Windsor estate, situated to the west of London, encompasses active farms, conservation zones, Windsor Great Park, and renowned royal sites like Windsor Castle. In the previous year, Windsor Castle attracted 1.4 million visitors, making it the UK’s most frequented royal tourist destination. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
