Mansfield District Council has announced that The Hermitage Local Nature Reserve in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, will be closed to visitors for several months due to safety reasons. The reserve was abruptly shut down on Wednesday, following a recent inspection. Mansfield District Council raised concerns regarding the safety of the footpaths, specifically mentioning hazards such as falling trees and exposed tree roots. The authority indicated that the site is projected to remain closed until at least April 2025, and securing funding for necessary repair work is required. Following the closure, fencing has been installed at the Kings Mill viaduct and Kings Lodge Drive entrances. Furthermore, walls along the pond edge and footpath have been collapsing into the pond, making access along the footpath unsafe. Additional concerns have been identified concerning the safety of trees located adjacent to the pond edge. A spokesperson for Mansfield District Council stated: “We are expecting the reserve to be closed until at least April 2025 so appropriate funding can be secured and the necessary contract arrangements for the work to be undertaken can be put in place.” The spokesperson added, “We apologise for the disruption this may cause but reiterate that keeping the public safe is our top priority.” They also highlighted, “There are more than 150 green spaces and local nature reserves across Mansfield to enjoy.” Post navigation Severn Trent Allocates £800m to Combat River Pollution The Challenges of Achieving Energy Efficiency in Homes
