A healthcare professional has been found guilty of causing a fatality in the Scottish Borders through negligent driving. The victim, Janette Davidson, aged 72 and residing in Kelso, died as a result of a two-vehicle collision on the B6397 route close to Floors Castle on November 11, 2022. Angela Hislop, 48, also a resident of Kelso, received a guilty verdict for entering the incorrect lane, delivered by a majority decision after a three-day jury proceeding at Jedburgh Sheriff Court. Her sentencing has been postponed until January 20 to allow for the preparation of background assessments. The indictment stated that Hislop “drove without due care and attention, failed to maintain proper observations and drove into the opposite lane when it was unsafe to do so.” Testimony presented in court indicated that she was on her way back from a 12.5-hour work period at Borders General Hospital at the time of the incident. Hislop was issued a temporary driving ban and is scheduled for sentencing in the upcoming year.
