Local activists have strongly criticized a council regarding its proposal to construct a 3G football pitch in a Lincolnshire town. A collective of Louth residents participated in a council gathering, expressing their opposition to the suggested development of an artificial turf pitch at the Wood Lane playing field site. The “Save Wood Lane” organization articulated worries concerning the reduction of green areas and potential noise problems. East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) filed a planning application for the pitch in July, specifying operating times from 08:00 to 22:00 GMT daily. During the council meeting held on Wednesday, James Timson, who leads the group, asserted that the council had selected an inappropriate location for the project and that the proposals would “plunge” residents into “green space deprivation.” He further stated, “Save Wood Lane are in support of new football facilities in Louth but we cannot stand by and let our beloved playing field get destroyed.” A local resident voiced apprehension that the “monstrous” pitch could generate considerable noise, a worry that the council’s environmental health department had similarly identified. Councillor Graham Marsh commented that the 3G pitch would represent an enhancement over the existing field, facilitating more frequent and extended opportunities for football play. Councillor Marsh also mentioned that the council had explored methods to mitigate these concerns, such as constructing an acoustic barrier nearly 10ft-high (3m) to reduce noise. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that ELDC’s planning committee is scheduled to make a decision regarding the development’s future in the upcoming year.
