Fundraising Efforts Follow Fatal Attack on Hotel Worker

Financial contributions totaling thousands of pounds have been collected to assist the five-year-old son of a woman who sustained fatal injuries at a Walsall railway station. Deng Chol Majek, identified by the BBC as an asylum seeker, faces a murder charge in connection with the death of Rhiannon Skye Whyte. Mr. Majek was residing at the Park Inn Hotel on Bescot Crescent in Walsall, the same establishment where Ms. Whyte was employed. The 27-year-old victim passed away in a hospital three days subsequent to an assault at the adjacent Bescot Stadium Station on October 20. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that, in addition to the murder charge, Mr. Majek is also accused of possessing an offensive weapon. The Home Office maintains an established policy of refraining from commenting on the immigration status of individuals. Nevertheless, it is understood that the hotel where Ms. Whyte worked was being utilized to accommodate asylum seekers. The community has offered numerous tributes and donations, with nearly £5,000 accumulated to provide assistance for her five-year-old son. Ms. Whyte’s sister, Alexandra, initiated a fundraising campaign, stating her intention to care for the boy. The relative recounted that her sister had been “suddenly and brutally attacked” after completing her shift, while conversing with her best friend on the phone. She passed away three days later, surrounded by loved ones, as stated in the fundraiser. The fundraiser’s text reads: “In the wake of this tragedy, we are raising funds to honour Rhiannon’s memory and support the five-year-old son she left behind. Any additional funds will go to a charity supporting victims of abuse and violence, a cause that Rhiannon, with her kind and selfless spirit, would have deeply cared about. Thank you for the overwhelming love and support we’ve received during this difficult time. Our family is grieving but we are united in carrying Rhiannon’s spirit forward.” Mr. Majek presented before Walsall Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday on an accusation of attempted murder, but this charge has since been elevated following Ms. Whyte’s death. He has been held in detention and is scheduled to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 19. The Radisson hotel group expressed profound sorrow regarding the loss of a highly esteemed employee. In a released declaration, it stated: “Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies are with Rhiannon’s family, and support is being provided to those affected as much as possible during this difficult time.” Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell of the British Transport Police noted that specialized personnel are offering support to Ms. Whyte’s family members. He stated: “Our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time. I would again like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with it.”
