Three men have been found guilty of attempted murder following a shooting incident at a family home in Birmingham. Shomari Mapp, 22, and Shaquon Richardson-Bowen, 21, were also convicted of arson after setting fire to a stolen car they used to flee the scene on Glendower Road, Perry Barr, on May 18. Aairus Rehman, 22, had previously admitted to arson and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at an earlier hearing. A man in his 60s suffered injuries from broken glass after a bullet struck a window in the residence. The trio, all Birmingham residents, received their convictions at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday. West Midlands Police reported that three gunshots were fired in quick succession at approximately 23:00, targeting both the upstairs and downstairs windows of the property. The final bullet hit a window, causing the glass to shatter. A man in his 60s, who was inside the property at the time, was injured by the broken glass. Police stated that a camera at the front of the address was damaged in an attempt to conceal the offenders’ identities. Additionally, a brick was thrown at the windscreen of a parked car located near the property. The perpetrators drove away from the scene in a stolen car, which they later set on fire, thereby destroying evidence. CCTV footage showed the three individuals driving past Glendower Road an hour before the shooting, seemingly to survey the area. Detective Inspector Francis Nock commented: “This was a planned and targeted attack on a family home when the gang knew the occupiers would be at the address. The shooting required immense planning such as a recce of the area, significant communication between the group, and covering their tracks. It’s a miracle someone wasn’t more seriously injured.” The sentencing for the men is scheduled for January 29 at Birmingham Crown Court.
