A temporary parking permit for individuals with restricted mobility is set to be introduced in North Lincolnshire. This “Green Badge,” which mirrors the “Blue Badge” but is issued on a temporary basis, will enable people experiencing a temporary illness or injury to park closer to various locations throughout the borough. The badge will be valid for 10 weeks from its issue date and must be displayed when parking in a disabled bay. Applications will necessitate supporting documentation from GPs or healthcare professionals, with the scheme scheduled to launch in January. The “Green Badge” may be extended beyond the initial 10-week period, depending on individual circumstances. Councillor Carl Sherwood, North Lincolnshire cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural), commented on the initiative, stating: “We are among the first in the country to develop a scheme like this to support people who are having temporary mobility issues whilst they recover from an illness or injury to access venues and services easily.” He added: “The Green Badge scheme will make a real difference for people who are having difficulties getting out and about to help them stay independent, stay safe and well, living in their own home and community.” Councillor Elaine Marper, cabinet member for transforming the customer journey, explained the rationale: “We often get people contacting us about Blue Badges because they are having mobility problems but don’t fit the criteria for a Blue Badge. The Green Badge now bridges that gap.”
